What is a Danna Burger you ask? You probably thought you had tasted it all in the world of tasty burgers, didn’t you? Well, get a load of this: the Danna Burger is one of the most unique and scrumptious burgers known to humanity, as well as a true Branson original. Considered by many to be Danna’s piece de resistance, this burger has more going for it than you can shake a stick at.
Throughout our lives as Americans, we have been exposed to all sorts of hamburgers from the lowly to the grandiose. From a burger handed out through a drive thru window to a home cooked burger hot off the grill, hamburgers are a staple of American cuisine that offers a perfect balance of taste, nostalgia and satisfaction that we have come to love so much. A myriad of variations exist in the ingredients used to create a burgers these days, with some being more original than others of course. Danna’s has come up with a combo that may well take the cake. The sign out in front of Danna’s says they serve the best burgers in Branson, and I friends can personally attest to that being a true and factual statement. Also notice that the sign also says they have bar-b-que and burgers. Well here’s the unique part: the Danna Burger combines both on one huge bakery fresh bun. Yes folks, you read that correctly; the Danna Burger is a hamburger topped with bar-b-que. Can you think of a better burger combination than these two classic American flavors married together in carnivorous ecstasy? As far as burgers go, this one offers a complex and sublime matrix of flavors that mesh together in beautiful synchronicity on your tongue. The hearty all beef patty is seared which traps the delicious juices inside; the tender mouth watering bar-b-qued pulled pork is bathed in a bar-b-que sauce that is the perfect blend of smoky, sweet and tangy. Cool tomato and crunchy pickle and lettuce are the perfect foil to the meaty heartiness of the beef and pork. A word to the wise about condiment additions-resist the temptation to glop a blob of ketchup on this baby; it will only confuse your taste buds. At best maybe a small amount of mayo could be added to enhance the richness, or maybe a small squirt of mustard for some added tang. However let’s face it; the most logical thing to slather on top of this heavenly burger would be some extra Danna’s bar-b-que sauce. So stop for a moment if you will and imagine all these diverse yet complimentary ingredients piled up on a bakery bun that is soft, yet buttery and toasty on one side from its short stint on the grill. So, is your mouthwatering yet? One bite of this burger will send you on your way to that state of being I like to refer to as “Hamburger Heaven”. Remember the importance of slowing down in order to savor every last bite as this is no ordinary garden-variety burger. And by the way-these things are huge, so either show up with an appetite or plan to cut it in half and take the rest with you. Fries and a soda are the standard ingredients in a good burger meal, but in this case, I really recommend you pair your Danna Burger with some sweet tea and Danna’s huge onion rings. The onion rings are big wheels of onion coated in a very crispy, crunchy coating, are deep golden brown and surprisingly devoid of greasiness. Wash it all down with a big glass of fresh brewed sweet tea and you have just experienced some of Branson’s best and most loved fare. It ain’t fancy, but it sure is delicious and destined to achieve world fame-I can feel it in my gut.
